What this will not do

  • Get a soil test first — $15–30 from your extension service. Without one you are guessing at the only number in this calculator that matters, and the common failures (too much nitrogen, wrong pH) cost you the season either way.
  • More is not better. Excess nitrogen gives you magnificent leaves, poor fruit, soft growth that pests prefer, and runoff into the creek.
  • The same arithmetic works for lime, gypsum and any amendment quoted per 1,000 sq ft or per acre.
